The eventful history can only be presented very inadequately here, so a few key data should suffice at this point.The town and castle of Sonnenburg were acquired by the Order of St. John on June 20, 1426 and the Balley was successfully run from here for centuries. But secularization (1811) did not stop at Sonnenburg either. With the edict of October 30th, 1810 "all property of monasteries, spiritual monasteries, balleyas, commends etc. was declared as state property."
