The Grand-Umstädter Rathaus was completed in 1605 in the Renaissance style and is one of the most representative, magnificent and progressive town hall buildings of the time. The Renaissance Town Hall dominates the market square of Groß-Umstadt with its magnificent entrance facade. The column portal bears the two coats of arms of Kurpfalz and Hesse-Darmstadt.The outstanding and varied designed sandstone adornment elements give the building its magnificent expression. The builder was Philip III. Wambolt von Umstadt, who had just recently built a modern palace wing, the Wamboltsche Schloss near the town hall. The stonemasons traveled from Aschaffenburg and Würzburg. The figures of Justitia and Prudentia reflect the self-image of the commissioning councilors who wanted to guide the fate of the city with "wisdom" and "justice". The wide portico on the ground floor served as a venue for the court.Source: outdooractive.com/en/historische-staette/odenwald/renaissance-rathaus/4707781
