In 1412 the House of Hohenzollern inherited the Mark Brandenburg after the Elector Sigismund of the House of Luxemburg had died. The new elector was Friedrich I. The previous burgrave of Nuremberg is said to have moved into his new principality as the first Hohenzoller on June 21 and 22, 1412 via the Brandenburg – Magdeburg military road. In his honor, or in honor of this event, a memorial, the Hohenzollernstein, was erected in 1905 about the height of the then Krug north of the village of Mahlenzien in the Neustädter Heide, in this area, for example, the border between Brandenburg and the Archbishopric of Magdeburg. This project was initiated and financed by Ludwig Graf von Wartensleben, the owner of the Rogäsen manor, to which the Gränert area, where the stone was erected, also belonged. The inscription on the stone reads:

“Burgrave Friedrich v. Nuremberg as the first Hohenzollern on June 21/22, 1412 in the Mark Brandenburg "

On the back is “v. Waiting life "and the year" 1905 "noted.

After the Second World War, the memorial was removed and was considered lost for a long time. After research by the pro Kirchmöser association, it was found again and recovered on October 29, 1998 with the help of the German Armed Forces. Subsequently, the memorial stone was restored with funds from the city of Brandenburg an der Havel and the Historical Association and put back in its old location. The Hohenzollernstein was inaugurated again on June 20, 1999. Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hohenzollernstein
