Narbonne has a Roman origin. The foundation of the colony of "Narbo Martiusson" dates from -118 before Jesus Christ. It is located on the Domitian Way, the first Roman road to be built in Gaul, which allowed the movement of soldiers and traders between Italy and Spain. It soon became the wealthiest city in southern Gaul, and was named by Emperor Augustus, capital of a province that stretched from Toulouse to Geneva: Gaul Narbonnaise.
Today the center of Narbonne is crossed by the Canal de la Robine and is very attractive from a tourist point of view. You will find many remarkable buildings there. The cathedral of Saint-Just and the neighboring Palace of the Archbishops form a unique architectural ensemble. Together, they take the majority of the Place de l'Hotel de Ville in Narbonne.
What not to miss to visit in my opinion is the Roman Horreum, or Grain Warehouse. Built underground, the Horreum of Narbonne is the only monument from the Roman period still visible in the city.

Very beautiful square with a view of the bishops' palace of the cathedral!
