In 767, Duke Charles Eugene had a pheasantry built with the hunting pavilion as the center of eight hunting alleys.

The pheasant garden was laid out from 1765 to 1767 (late baroque) by court architect Reinhard Ferdinand Heinrich Fischer for Duke Carl Eugen in the "hardness" (small willow forest), with avenues starting from the approximate center in a star shape through the "pheasant garden" (today forest area). Pheasants were raised and then released and hunted in autumn.

During the reign of King Wilhelm I, the main buildings that can still be seen today were built from red and yellow sandstone from 1818 onwards. The pavilion, adorned with a golden pheasant, served as the residence of the court ladies during the hunt and as a snack bar for the hunting party after the hunt. The pavilion is also the intersection of the eight hunting avenues. The entire complex is now a listed building; the buildings now house the depot of the Solitude forest district.
