At the end of the 19th century, Francisca Fincent (called Moeder Siska) invented the waffle iron with five hearts as we know it today. Over time, she became so famous for her art of baking that Siska waffles became a fixture in Knokke. Today the fourth generation tearoom is family owned and the waffles are still baked according to the original 1882 recipe.
