It was not until the 20th century that the Barther citizens remembered the tradition of water art on the market. In 1958 a new well was built. The fountain was designed by the artist Wilhelm Löber (1903-1981), who among other things created the Fischland ceramics. So it is not surprising that a typical ceramic motif, the fish, can be found in the architecture of the fountain. The fountain shows three jumping fish, on a column of water from whose fish heads the water pours out. The fish symbolize the earlier basis of life, fishing. The motif also quotes the Barther coat of arms, on which there are three fish. The socialist slogans on the octagonal brick wall of the fountain were not included in the artist's design. The plans showed maritime motifs.
