The thatched church was built in 1957 and architecturally adapted to the seasonal rhythm of a holiday island. It consists of a closed part, the Winter Church, and the Summer Church, a courtyard with thatched roof and colorful glass windows by Margarete Franke, which depict scenes from the life of St. Nicholas. The architect of the church is the Osnabrück Heinrich Feldwisch-Drentrup. The Winter Church can accommodate about 50 worshipers. The summer church used only in the main season is designed for up to 300 people.
