The island bell serves as a bell tower for the neighboring old island church. Although it is often claimed that it came from a Dutch ship stranded off Baltrum, there is more reliable evidence that it was discovered by islanders at a junk sale in Amsterdam in the early 19th century and brought to Baltrum.
The island bell is the symbol of the island and can also be found in the island coat of arms.

Hiking

The island bell Baltrum next to the old island church is considered the symbol of the island. There are little stories about the bell that can be heard in the Altes Zollhaus Museum. It rings regularly during the season for evening prayers and also as a wedding bell when a bridal couple makes a vow for life in the romantic Old Island Church.
The island bell can also be found in the island coat of arms.
