In 1874 the "Bebra-Friedländer-Bahn" was built, and the viaduct over the Hornel and over the old country road was also built at that time. In October 1875 the first train ran on the still single-track section Bebra – Eschwege / Niederhohne. What takes just under half an hour today, took almost two hours back then. A few months later the route to Friedland was completed. By the mid-1880s, the railway line was then expanded to two tracks. There is a small parking lot on the bike path right in front of the viaduct, ideal for starting from here.
