The complex was built in the 18th century by the Barons of Haxthausen. At the moment it is not open to the public and can therefore only be admired from a distance. The historic arcade that borders the castle's park to the northwest is definitely worth seeing and can also be accessed. In the 19th century, the Bökendorf Romantic Circle, which included Brentano, Fallersleben and the Brothers Grimm, met at the castle. Annette von Droste-Hülshoff was also part of the literary community. Her novella "The Jew's Beech" refers to a historical criminal case and is set in the region.

Unfortunately only to be admired from a distance ...
Well-kept complex with a beautiful mansion (I wouldn't call it a castle)
