The building, completed in 1892, was designed by Vilhelm Ahlmann (1852–1928) in the national romantic style. The central building rises on the plan of a Greek cross. Ahlmann used parts of an octagon as a recurring geometric element. The central church tower with a copper dome is modeled on the neo-Gothic bell tower of Aachen Cathedral (Wikipedia).
