    Düvelsteen

The Düvelsteen (High German: Devil's Stone) near Großkönigsförde is truly an impressive boulder.
It is considered the largest in Schleswig-Holstein. The boulder lies 20 meters from the K 92 between Großkönigsförde and Revensdorf and is freely accessible.

The Düvelsteen consists of coarse-grained, light-brown Småland granite, composed of pink feldspar, light-colored quartz, and finely distributed black mica.
It is approximately 1.8 billion years old. During the Ice Age, it was pushed to its present location by glaciers from southern Sweden. Weighing approximately 180 tons, measuring approximately 3.75 meters high, 6 meters long, and 4.5 meters wide, it is an impressive natural monument.

    LEGEND OF THE DEVIL'S STONE

According to legend, the devil tried to destroy St. Jürgen's Church in Gettorf, 7 km away, with this stone.

However, God deflected the stone, so that the stone only grazed the church, and the tower has been slightly leaning ever since.

The boulder eventually landed near Großkönigsförde.

[This story is illustrated by a devil statue in Gettorf and information panels on site.]
