Kaltennordheim (Rhöner Platt: Nurde) is a small town in the Rhön in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia. It is a member and seat of the Hohe Rhön administrative community.

In the Middle Ages, the place was called "Nordheim im Tullifeld". It was not until the 14th century that the additional name Kalten- appeared, which probably derives from the relatively cool, rough weather of the places Kaltennordheim, Kaltensundheim, Kaltenlengsfeld and Kaltenwestheim, due to the unfavorable location behind the mountains in the south. In addition, the additional name was probably useful to distinguish it from other places such as Nordheim v.d.Rhön.
