Lake Schladitz is located north of Leipzig and is surrounded by the municipality of Rackwitz and the Schkeuditz districts of Hayna and Wolteritz. It is part of a recreational area that emerged from the recultivation of the former Breitenfeld opencast mining area. Since its opening in 2003, Lake Schladitz has quickly established itself as a new swimming option with the best water quality. The use in implementation of the principle of “visitor guidance instead of prohibition signs” began in 2003, well before the final water level was reached.

The Schladitzer See, a former opencast mine in northwest Saxony, has served as a swimming lake, water sports center and fishing water since 2003. The lake is surrounded by an eight and a half kilometer long, asphalted circular path. Ideal for cyclists, inline skaters and pedestrians. At this point you have a great view of the opposite bank and the Biedermeier beach.
