Mystical forest with gnarled, old cork oaks. Closing wine bottles with cork is still very common in Spain, screw caps are rarely seen. The tree is called “Alcornoque” in Spanish. The bark is soft and elastic and gets thicker and thicker over time. The cork is harvested every 9 to 14 years. Cutting off the bark is no longer harmful to the tree, it just grows back.
