Watchet lighthouse was built in the late 1800s after the harbour underwent significant renovation. Brunel's proposals for the lighthouse lost out to the eventual designer, George Hennet.

The lighthouse remains operational today but doesn't emit a flashing light typical of lighthouses. Instead, it has a steady green light, operating as the starboard navigation marker for the harbour entrance.
