The viaduct (also known as the Reiherbach Bridge) is a seven-arched, 193 m long and 28 m high railway bridge that is used as a cycle path.

The views of the countryside are simply impressive from here. The idea that the heavy steel giants used to drive here is breathtaking. Pedestrians and cyclists were once not to be found on this bridge (no access to traffic routes). Great these days, just glide over it, stop and enjoy the perspectives.

The Selbach viaduct was built from 1910 to 1913 as part of the Wabern-Brilon-Wald railway line, which was only completed in 1917, in the Korbach-Bad Wildungen section (known as the Ederseebahn) for the transport of goods and passengers. It was built as part of the construction of the nearby dam (1908-1914) of the Edersee.
During the Second World War, several bomb attacks were carried out on the bridge in February and March 1945 because the railway line was being used as an alternative route for trains running between Kassel and the Ruhr area at the time. During the third attack on March 18, 1945, the viaduct was so badly damaged that train traffic had to be stopped and goods and passengers had to be brought by horse-drawn carriages and automobiles to the stops in the two Waldeck villages of Netze in the southeast and Sachsenhausen in the west. In July 1945, the repair phase began, which lasted around a year, until trains were able to cross the bridge again on July 22, 1946. In the post-war period, trains continued to run over the viaduct until 1995.
