    The St. Margarethen Church;
    You have certainly already noticed the church tower with its beautiful half-timbered structure and the striking roof spire, especially beautiful when it is illuminated at night. It is the oldest church building in the municipality of Mainhardt and originally served the population as a defense and escape tower: the entrance was on the first floor and could only be reached via ladders and then locked from the inside. The loopholes also point to this defensive origin. The strange arc that the old driveway to Schwäbisch Hall makes around the church suggests that it once led directly through this defensive tower.
    The nave itself was added later. The year 1485 in the keystone of the choir presumably indicates the year of consecration. The winged altar, a Wendelin altar from the beginning of the 16th century, which may have been removed from Hall's Michaelskirche during the Reformation, is valuable in terms of art history. The crucifix above the altar, which is also valuable, dates from 1680.
    In a thorough exterior and interior renovation, the church got its present-day appearance in 1903 with the addition of the sacristy.
    Today a three-bell ringing sounds from the tower with the tones f sharp, a, and h.
    The church patroness Margaretha is traditionally one of the fourteen helpers in need; In particular, farmers and women giving birth are subject to their protection.

      The church is a nice oject to view, but for me when you go behind it, there is the Town Butcher, who sells a variety of products. I like to plan my hikes to go through the town when the store is open. One can get excellent products to take along on a hike.
