At the end of the 18th century, the old moated castle from 1682 was to be rebuilt. However, it turned out that the foundations would no longer have supported securely. The moated castle was torn down and replaced by the new baroque building that still stands today.

The coat of arms of the Thüngen aristocratic family, which determined the fate of Zeitlofs for centuries, is emblazoned on the castle. In 1347 she inherited parts of the area still known today as Thüngensche Cent. Through purchase and contracts, the aristocratic family came into the sole possession of Zeitlofs and the neighboring villages of Weißenbach, Detter, Roßbach and Rupboden in 1422. Today they are combined in one community, together with the village of Eckarts, which was bought in 1457.
The New Palace in Zeitlofs lost its political importance a few years after its completion in 1782. In 1803 Bavaria and Hesse began to fight over the Thüngensche Cent. In 1814 Zeitlofs finally fell to Bavaria.
