The Great Aue flows reverently around the small island in Liebenau. A calming, green place right in the city. There are also fish ladders and a water mill.

Liebenau watermill - once built to grind grain.
Since 1298 the place on the "Große Aue" has been the location of the mill. At that time the mill served as a pure grain mill for grinding grain. In 1859 a sawmill was added to the grain mill, and the floodplain now drove four mill wheels. In 1913 there was an extensive renovation in which the water wheels were replaced by a turbine. After the mill was stopped in the 1970s, the turbine continues to run today and generates electricity. The energy discovery route leads past the mill. It is a tourist bike path that includes locations that have to do with energy in the broadest sense. A fish ladder adjoins the water mill. With this project, the ecological continuity of the Große Aue was completely secured.
