Rest area with information board about the Via Imperialis, which passed by here: It was the most important medieval west-east connection for merchants, craftsmen, pilgrims and armies with formerly supra-regional transport significance.

Five paths cross at the path spider visible here. One path leads over Schöchleins, which was called a forest estate as early as 1500, down into the Zeubach valley, another a little east to Volsbach.
Furthermore, the deeply buried junction of the Geleitstraße shows on the direct route towards Mistelgau, another to Gollenbach, where a footpath crosses by the Hanfleigte - formerly known as Hengstleiten. There used to be a torture (wooden cross).
At this crossing point there was a large beech tree as a border town until 1679, which still gives its name to an extensive forest section that adjoins it.
The Vogt von Waischenfeld had a gallows set up near this book, which was supposed to scare off evil rabble.
From here the "Via Imperialis" follows a ridge that separates the Hummelgau and the Ahorntal and continues southeast of the Neubürg to Muthmannsreuth.
The solid and dry subsoil of this part of the Franconian Jura was predestined for long-distance traffic and trade routes, since such routes were sought for land-based transport where more effortless movement could be guaranteed for people, animals and later wagons than in swampy valley floors. In doing so, she also accepted steep climbs.
