Since reunification, the historic center was thoroughly renovated in the context of urban development; many historic buildings have been restored. However, this was accompanied by the demolition of 26 partially significant buildings of the historic resort architecture, such as the completed in 1906 Arendseer Kurhauses, which was released after some resistance in 1994 for demolition.
Instead of the old spa building, the hotel "Meeresblick" is now modeled after the old Arendsee spa hotel, and compared to old pictures, one can guess what the old spa building looked like.
