La Brà (from the German "breit" = "wide") only began to be defined as a square in the first half of the sixteenth century, when Michele Sammicheli, building the Palazzo degli Honorii, established a correct perspective of the Arena and delimited the perimeter of the future westward square. Another contribution was made by the construction of the Palazzo della Gran Guardia, which defines the limit of the area on the southern slope. After the paving of the "Listòn", completed in 1782, the Brà became the favorite place for evening strolls, instead of the Piazza dei Signori. From the middle of the century XII, the market for timber, hay and straw, as well as livestock, was held there, so much so that ancient documents often mention the Brà with the name of "foro boario". The tradition of the Santa Lucia fair survives from the ancient custom of the fair in Bra', which is renewed every year between 11 and 13 December.

The Piazza Brà with the pink marble promenade and the equestrian statue of King Vittoro Emanuele II is the largest piazza in Verona. Around the square are cafes, restaurants and notable buildings such as the arena, the town hall and the Palazzo della Gran Guardia

Running here in Piazza Bra surrounded by the most important monuments of Verona is a real satisfaction. I recommend when there is little influx of tourists, otherwise the race becomes a slalom.
