When the Zweirad-Röth company became general importer for MZ and Simson in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1986, Fritz Röth's third son, Matthias Röth, aroused interest in everyday life in the GDR, supported by many trips to and through the GDR . He began to buy and collect everyday objects in shops in the GDR. Since 1986 the size of the collection has grown to over 500 items and the museum is being expanded regularly.
