This chapel is a place where Saint Valentine is venerated. It is said that the well dates back to the 8th century, but this is not clear. The well was first mentioned in 1799. The well was known for its medicinal properties and Saint Valentinus was worshiped for various health ailments. An old chapel on that spot was demolished in 1825, but a new chapel was built in 1947 in gratitude for the protection of Westerhoven during the Second World War. In 1970 the Valentinus statue was stolen and the chapel damaged, but in 1980 the chapel was restored.
Since then, an annual light procession has been held, and Remembrance Day takes place in the chapel on 4 May.
