A single-storey moated castle, mentioned as early as the 14th century and later expanded, was destroyed by fire in 1856.

In that year Michael Angelo Ritter von Picchioni bought Castle and Gut Böhmisch Rudoletz and instead of the old moated castle had a new castle built with a four-storey four-wing structure in the Tudor style with a 28 m high tower. It was similar to the Hluboká Castle (Frauenberg Castle) in Bohemia and was therefore given the name "Little Hluboká" or "Moravian Hluboká".

However, after 1945, after the last owner, Ernst Ritter von Picchioni, had been expropriated, it was left to decay. Conservation and renovation work has only been carried out on the castle ruins in recent years.
