At the Wilhelmsbuche, near a crossroads, there is ample seating for a cozy snack next to a forester's hut (mostly locked). As the name suggests, His Majesty Kaiser Wilhelm II once stalked grouse here with his mustache twirled up. They no longer exist here. The monarchy, by the way, neither.
Wilhelm II was physically disabled since his birth, the right arm was unusable. In order to prove to himself and the world that he was still a whole guy, he used to shoot the game by the dozen with a one-handed special rifle. Even worse, Wilhelm also played the boastful macho on the international stage, making himself and the German Reich a bogeyman. When the First World War went wrong, he fled headlong into exile in Holland in 1918, the other German monarchs did the same. Since then, the princely landmarks of the Rennsteig have been out of service, so to speak, but we at the Rennsteigverein love them no less and want to protect them from vandalism.

Beautiful and distinctive resting place with the Wilhelmsbuche on the Sallmannshäuser Rennsteig.
