Situated at an elevation of 744 metres, this man-made lake is an integral part of the "factory group Schluchsee," a significant hydroelectric power scheme. Hiking

The reservoir is part of the "factory group Schluchsee". It is beautifully nestled between Black Forest firs. The water flows in natural gradient over three barrages in which electricity is generated - from Schluchsee to the powerhouse houses on the Schwarzatal dam, from there to the power plant Witznau on the Witznautalserre and on to the power plant Waldshut. Finally, the water at Waldshut flows into the Rhine. The Schwarzatallsperre was built from 1929 to 1931. If you want to circle the lake, a path leads you along the shore.
