The Linkenmühle was built in the 17th century as a grain mill, farm, and winery, and was still in operation until 1968. A 30-meter-high bridge crossed the dam at the Linkenmühle. On April 12, 1945, the bridge was blown up to prevent the advance of American forces. The bridge has not been rebuilt to this day.

It is possible to use Thuringia's only car ferry, which operates between Linkenmühle and Altenbeuthen.
