    Junction B65 - Rodenberger Allee

      Museumslandschaft Amt Rodenberg:
Where does the name of the intersection "Drei Steine" come from? A passage from a booklet by Georg Böhling describes the return of two journeymen from Rodenberg to their hometown around 1850: "Oh, we'll be there soon. Look, there's the big avenue that leads to Rodenberg. Three rows of big trees - they provide cool shade in the summer. On the right is the footpath, on the left the road. Look, there are also the three stones, so that no cart can get onto the footpath..."

Thanks to a discovery by our member H. Finger, there was further evidence that confirmed exactly the above passage. A photo with exactly the "Three Stones"! The photo can be dated to the 1950s because, among other things, H. Finger's father is pictured. The year of birth is known and the age of the person pictured can be estimated. The middle row of trees has probably already disappeared in favor of a road widening, but the "three stones" are clearly visible in the background.

They, the "bollards", were apparently already put up when the avenue was built. This effectively prevented a small horse-drawn carriage from taking the wrong path, namely the footpath. There were no road traffic regulations or even traffic signs in the 19th century.

The boulders put up a few years ago on the north side of the intersection are "folklore" and have nothing to do with history...
