The Hinterfrankenberg castle ruins are a fascinating destination for anyone who wants to combine history and nature. The remains of the former castle are idyllically situated on a hill and offer a great view of the surrounding landscape.

Although only ruins remain of the castle, you can feel the breath of times gone by here. The old walls, some of which have been reclaimed by nature, are particularly impressive. Sturdy shoes are recommended as the paths to the ruins can be uneven in places.

A visit is particularly worthwhile for history buffs and hikers looking for a quiet place to linger. Don't forget to bring your binoculars - the view is worth it!

The Hinterfrankenberg castle ruins, also called Frankenberg castle ruins, are the ruins of a medieval hilltop castle north of Weigenheim in the Franconian district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim (Bavaria).

From the once proud castle Hinterfrankenberg today only few wall and tower remains are preserved. Just like the neighboring castle Hohenlandsberg, the castle Hinterfrankenberg was severely damaged in the Markgräflichen war. The castle ruin fell into the following centuries. Around 1800 Freiherr von Pöllnitz acquired the dilapidated ruin and the associated lands. He had the ruins removed and used as a quarry.
