Baroque pilgrimage church on the Laurenziberg, built 1707 to 1717 on the foundations of an Irish-Scottish central church from the late 6th or early 7th century. Foundation stone next to the south portal. Original and mother church of the places around the Laurenziberg. Today's appearance after extensive reconstruction and renovation in 1905/1906 by the architect August Greifzu, Mainz. High altar, 1656, donated by the Mainz canon and later elector, Archbishop Karl Heinrich von Metternich, for the burial place of his family in the Lamberti Chapel in Mainz Cathedral. The coat of arms of the Metternich-Beilstein-Winneburg family in the upper segment of the altar.

The high altar was moved to the Laurenzikirche in 1807. The figure of St. Laurentius is a foundation of Bishop Wilhelm Emanuel Freiherr von Ketteler (1867). The side altars come from the St. Christophskirche in Mainz and have been in the Laurenzikirche since 1868.

The windows with representations from the life of St. Laurentius come from the Mannheim glass art workshop Kriebitzsch and Voege. The 1986 by Pastor Dr. Ludwig Hellriegel set up a memorial to the Mainz martyrs from the time of the National Socialist reign of terror in the back of the church.
