Castelloni di San Marco

Amazing and adventurous natural labyrinth, shaped over millions of years by the action of water on the karst rock, creating caves, tunnels, crevices, tunnels and canyons!
It is a real 'natural castle', with rooms, corridors and secret passages, perched on the top of a hill along the edge of the Valsugana: hence the toponym 'Castelloni'; 'of San Marco' because we are close to the former border between the Republic of San Marco (Venice) and the Habsburg Empire.During the First World War, given its proximity to the Ortigara front, it was adapted by Italian soldiers to use it as a second line of defense and observatory. Spectacular views of the Valsugana and the Lagorai.The route is well marked with progressive numbers from 1 to 48: it is advisable to follow them for a complete visit and to avoid getting lost, avoiding dangerous off-piste on the precipice.
