In 1904 the first stone was laid for the construction of a small church near the Saragnano cross, a symbol of redemption. The chapel was to be dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception. There is ancient evidence of the presence of another church in Saragnano, but it was decided to build a new one rather than recover the previous one. For financial reasons the new church was left unfinished. Only the walls were built and are still standing today. Approaching those ruins, a particular pointed arch is clearly visible between the walls. Inside this arch, as if it were the frame of a painting, there is a breathtaking view of Salerno and the "lunato gulf". From here the dawn lights are reflected in the sea and those of the sunset give vivid colors to the landscapes. Faced with such divine wonder, every visitor knows they are standing at the door of heaven.

From here begins the descent towards Canalone. Fund composed mostly of coarse stones. Pay attention to the deep grooves near the water line.
