In 1865, the "Ahrensburg" train station was opened on the Hamburg–Lübeck railway line in the estate of the village of Woldenhorn, first documented in 1314. This prompted the community to rename Woldenhorn to Ahrensburg. Thanks to the fast rail connection to Hamburg, Ahrensburg developed into a popular tourist destination and residential suburb in the Hamburg area, and its population increased.
