The village of Popielno was founded in the 17th century. It is possible that the former settlers worked as ash in the forest, that is, producing wood ash and potash (potassium carbonate) from wood.
In Popielno, there are the remains of the manor complex with the oldest building - a brick warehouse from 1858. The manor park dates back to the 19th century, transformed in the 20th century by the employees of the research station of the University of Königsberg (they founded, among others, an alpine garden). The three stylized wooden houses were built in the 1920s.
