The first place in the valley is Pergine Valsugana. The lively town at the gateway to the famous valley is characterized by the impressive castle complex of Castel Pergine above the town. The castle is considered to be largely original in terms of its shape and structure, apart from an alleged Roman fortress that is said to have once stood here.
