Border post for criminals (gypsies)
According to historical records, a crime stake was first erected at this border around 1635 at the instigation of Georg-Wilhelm Herzog von Celle-Lüneburg. At that time the perpetrators "Gypsies" (now Sinti and Roma) had to stop at this border post on their hikes and stay for three days before they were allowed to travel on to Tivoli Springe accompanied by a mounted hunter from Springe.
At the Tivoli Springe they were allowed to do their “trade” for three days, tinkering and fortune telling and earn money. Then they had to leave Springe again and were handed over to the town bailiff of Hameln near Hillingsfeld.
