“…the responsibility for this phenomenon can be traced back to “Soil Creeping” also called “Reptazione”. It is an imperceptible movement of the ground that influences the direction of the trunks at a very slow and constant speed (it is a matter of fractions of millimeters per year). This phenomenon, too slow to be observed directly, mainly affects the more humid soils and slopes with slight inclinations and its effects can be seen only after years and years from its beginning precisely thanks to the curved tree trunks.” Cit.
