Hiking
The heath is kept open, partly due to the grazing of cows from the French Bazadaise breed from Bazas in the Gironde. This is important for a large number of birds, including the nightjar, curlew, stonechat and the tree pipit. A number of reptiles and amphibians are also attracted to the heath, such as the smooth snake, viviparous lizard and slow worm, as well as the moor frog.
