The Tennenbach Monastery is a former Cistercian abbey (circa 1158-1806), after its founding Tennenbach developed into one of the most important and largest monasteries in southwestern Germany.

Only the small church remains from the Cistercian abbey in the picturesque Tennenbachtal. In earlier times it belonged to the monastery's infirmary. The monastery was founded around 1158. After an eventful history with multiple fires and destruction, it was secularized in 1806. and repealed by the Grand Duchy of Baden. In the middle of the 19th century most of the monastery buildings were demolished. (Information from Wikipedia).
Today, the peaceful meadow valley on the edge of the Black Forest with its lonely chapel exudes a meditative calm that may not have been present in the monastery's heyday.
