The Mortirolo. Together with the Zoncolan and the Angliru the holy triad of the mountains, which one climbs only for one reason: one is just a bit stupid.

An incredibly steep, disgusting mountain. I save any curses at this point. You who read this, but you can be sure that you can verballern all vocabulary of ugly words on this increase. Significantly, the start here starts at a cemetery (where you can also park, by the way). That could not promise anything good. The whole driveway is 12.7 km long. The first eight kilometers are in a forest and you only get a glimpse of the valley from time to time. The power pole remains unforgotten for me. You drive in downstairs, look up to it, come out of the forest after eight kilometers and look down on the mast.

Then follow a small downhill passage before true hell begins. Maybe Dante should have made one of his hell circles to this mountain. At kilometer 8.5, you are at 1,474 meters in altitude (you start by the way to 523 meters in altitude., I leave the math at this point) and it goes well 800 meters flat to slightly sloping on. Every normal person is happy about it. I thought only one thing: "Shit. The passport is at 1,850 meters altitude. The mountain is 12.7 km long. And I'm here for 800 meters, leaving only 3.5. "Okay, I did not think so. I was barely able to do that. But what followed for the next two kilometers was a steepness that can not be beaten.

About washed concrete slabs it goes uphill at over 20% slope. Only when the road merges with the rise of Mazzo, it becomes bearable again. After that, the mountain is a no brainer. And: not for nothing is this driveway at "Quäldich" classified harder than the better known of Mazzo. But you definitely have your peace here. No normal person wants to get up here.
