'S BraaretBernsche (the Breidert Börnchen) is a prime example of how hidden places can be brought back to life after a certain slumber and how people can be reconnected with home and nature. Anyone who now approaches the said spot via the south-eastern corner of Rödermark, the Breidert residential area, through beautiful mixed forest along the wooden signs with the stork, could get the impression that the pine trees around the fountain area had been cleared specifically for the use of this place. But far from it. It was the drought of the last few years that affected the giant trees so much that they collapsed on top of each other or had to be felled in autumn 2019 for safety reasons. So the small octagonal shelter now towers abruptly over the historic site.

A spring in the Breidert forest, our current "BraaretBernsche", must have existed at the time of the first settlement. It is not known exactly when the spring was surrounded and thus became a fountain. But in the field map from 1820 a "Breidert Börnchen" is listed.

The fountain is said to have been used as a resting place by the pilgrims who walked from Frankfurt to Walldürn. But a well in the forest was of course also a place for secret meetings of young people from the village. It can be assumed that some secret get-togethers showed a visible event after a few months. This is probably where the story came from, that the stork brings the babies from the Braaret Bernsche. That's how it was told to children from generation to generation and that's how it has been handed down as a legend to this day.

Here is a well set in stone, the spring has unfortunately dried up, a refuge and benches for a picnic break. On the edge of Ober-Roden a fine place in the middle of nature.

It is a beautiful place that you can also use in summer for a relaxing rest because of the shady trees.
