From the sailor's chapel dedicated to Notre-dame-de-la-Garde, you have a view of Etretat. Further on, beyond the long pebble beach, De Maupassant saw the "elephant dipping its trunk into the sea": he was referring to the Porte d'Aval, an amazingly carved rock arch.
