The first heather blossom festival was held in 1951. It was organized by the Uelsen Wirte Association (an association of almost all Uelsen innkeepers). The event took place in the Wilsum mountains and was held until 1967. Especially in the first few years, thousands of visitors from near and far were welcomed.
