This cross was erected in memory of Fritz Philippi, who in 1921 wrote the story "Das Heidekreuz". He was parish priest in Breitscheid from 1897 to 1904. In addition to his pastoral work, he was also a writer of poems, stories, dramas, etc. He described mostly the living conditions of the rural population in the barren "High Westerwald", whose drama unfolded from the harshness of everyday life.
