The Casermette del Penna Refuge is a reference point for excursions in the Aveto Regional Natural Park or for those traveling along the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. Surrounded by a beautiful beech forest, it is immersed in the enchanting context of Monte Penna and Monte Pennino.

The complex originates from logistical needs of the State Forestry Corps which, around 1920, erected its Forest House here (now Rifugio Penna). The second and adjacent structure, the current Rifugio Pennino, was added in the 1960s, while the third, smaller, La Foresteria, was commissioned by the Park Authority (owner of the complex since 2005) as a shelter for vehicles , men and tools. The current structure, inaugurated in June 2017, is the result of bio-architectural and eco-plant renovation choices that involve the use of natural materials and renewable energy sources.

Open all year round, it has 25 beds divided into rooms with 2, 3 or 4 beds, as well as a 12-bed dormitory inside the Rifugio Pennino.
