The original parish church of Quarona was the church of San Giovanni Battista, located on a hill overlooking the town and reachable via an impervious path.

In 1599, construction work began on the new church of Sant'Antonio Abate in the town, designed by Father Cleto da Castelletto Ticino; the place of worship was consecrated by the bishop of Novara Ferdinando Taverna on 9 October 1617. In the same year the parish was transferred here for the convenience of the faithful, since especially for the sick and elderly it was not easy to go to the ancient church of San Giovanni Battista .

      She's NOT a girl with a broom!
She's Blessed Panacea, patron saint of Valsesia, originally from Quarona and martyred on the hills outside the town, still buried in Ghemme in the great Antonellian chapel.
And that's not a broom, but a shepherdess' crook.
