In the north of the city center, along Kapellenstrasse, lies the so-called "Spitalviertel". It is named after the Pfründner hospital, which was founded in 1352. After the complex fell into disrepair, Prince-Bishop Julius Echter of Würzburg (1545 - 1617), a great patron and supporter of the city of Ebern, ordered its reconstruction in 1613. After the renewed decline, the baroque church was built between 1724 and 1725 and the adjoining residential building was built between 1754 and 1756. The attached St. Elisabeth senior citizens' center was built between 1989 and 1992.
